The Whale Bone Arch frames the sun at 'high noon' in Barrow, Alaska last week.

In Alaska, there is relatively no sun from mid November to March-April.  This is a picture of the sun on the last day of sunlight before winter in Barrow, Alaska.

I apologize for not keeping up with my posts.  It appears I have been reading the same book for 2 years.  Not so, I have been reading other books, I just haven't been keeping up with my new posts.
I finished reading Dan Brown's "Digital Fortress" ages ago.  I will give it 5 stars.
Good, but not his best work.

Digital Fortress by Dan Brown

This is an awesome book. If you are not already a Dan Brown fan, this will bring it on. This book is somewhat different than his others Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. These two previous books deal with a lot of history and some fantasy interwoven. Digital Fortress is current and full of international intrigue and murder. Well worth the time and effort.
Other great Dan Brown reads:

The Da Vinci Code
Angels and Demons
Deception Point
Well all, Evidently life in Alaska lately has been somewhat boring.  I've had nothing to write about.  That is about to change.  I have decided to began writing about other things besides Alaska.  I will still add in History, Stories and Life in Alaska, but I feel I need to add in some other subjects or I will only be writing once or twice a year.  So, here goes....  :)

"Drunk Santa"

We had the most interesting event occur this winter.  At my husbands store they have a red "blow-up" Santa that is put up every night.  This one evening just around Christmas 2011 on a weekend, the maintenance man was making his rounds.  As he rounded an area near the front door of the building, off to the side he saw a "man" in a red coat lying in the snow partially covered with snow.  Thinking the "man" was inebriated and "sleeping or passed out"  he called 911.  Due to the extreme cold conditions and the winds that were unusually bad that night, the operator dispatched EMT's, police, & fire engines.  While waiting for the EMT's, the operator asked if he had checked to see if the man was breathing.  He replied that no, he had not.  The EMT's, police and fire engine had arrived and all congregated in the parking lot when the maintenance man checked and found that the inebriate was the human size blow-up Santa that my husband had forgotten to put up.  He had lost some of the air, but retained enough to make him look real in the snow.  Everyone, even the police and EMT's got a good laugh on that one.  Consequently, my husband didn't forget to put Santa in the building the rest of the holidays.  I know we will never forget that Christmas or our "inebriated Santa".

Moose Is Loose

I wish I had gotten a picture the other day.  My daughter opened the garage door to find a large moose standing between her car and mine.  She waited, but he just stood there looking at her.  Finally, she came back in and called work to tell them she would be late due to the moose near the car.  She waited and after a few minutes he traveled on his way down the street to the neighbors house.  This is a common occurrence in our neighborhood, for a long time we had a family of moose living in our backyard.  A few years ago, Mama moose got hit by a car leaving two yearlings to fend for themselves.  Since then the babies have been living somewhere else.  The moose in the yard I have no doubt was related to Mama.
Anyway, my daughter went on to work as usual.  Later, when she came home, my granddaughter said "grandma, guess what"?  I said "what"?  She promptly stated, "that moose pooped behind your car"!
I said, "Well, that explains why he just stood there looking, he must have been concentrating".
She said, "Yeah, mom must have scared him".  I said "Yeah, she probably scared the poop right out of him"!  We all laughed at that one.  I wish I had a nickel for every time someone in Alaska couldn't leave their house because a moose is in the yard or driveway, I'd be rich!!!!
