Welcome to Arctic Rose blog. This is a blog about life in Alaska and what it is like to live in a place where the temperature can range from 68 or 70 below to 88 or 90 above, though not often. We love Alaska and have been here for 35+ years, by choice. If you are visiting or moving to Alaska in the near future I welcome your questions, comments, etc. Enjoy our daily adventures of life in the great state of Alaska.

EDGAR ALLAN POE NIGHT AT BARNES & NOBLE?
Recently, I went to Barnes & Noble to pick up a few books and have a Caramel-Mocha Grande at the Starbucks inside. As I walked in I noticed an odd site. Every light and every out-cropping on the Barnes and Noble store had a Raven sitting on it. They were using the lights to stay warm, as it was so cold. I stepped back and had to take the picture. All I had with me was my phone so, the picture is not the greatest, but the humor was great. I thought to myself, "Must be Edgar Allan Poe night at Barnes and Noble". I couldn't help but laugh. Fortunately, it is warming up outside and people will be able to be more active outside again. If it wasn't for Barnes & Noble and Starbucks I think I wouldn't make it up here.

FORTY BELOW
Well, this was a great day to post a blog about Alaska's cold weather. It was -41 last night, I'm used to it and still got cold. Thank God it is supposed to warm up next week. We have been running about 3 weeks now cold, but not forty below running in the 20's and 30's below. Many of us "hole up" during these weather patterns. Home and work, not much else. Too cold to snow mobile, ski, or just about anything else.
Some of us read, sew or other crafts. Some sleep a lot or, of course, everyone's favorite watch tv. I like to "surf" the web. This is exactly what I was doing when I decided I can "write a blog" too. So, here we are and here I am.
